NELFUND : Over 500,000 Nigerian Students Applied For Loans In One Year

The Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) says more than 500,000 Nigerian students have applied for loans through its portal in one year.

‎This is contained in a statement on Friday by NELFUND’s spokesperson, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi.

‎Mr Oluwatuyi quoted the fund’s managing director, Akintunde Sawyerr, as saying the milestone achieved within just 11 months of operations underscored the critical need for accessible student
‎financing in Nigeria.

UTME Candidates Can Write Exams Outside States Of Registration – JAMB Clarifies

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has refuted claims that UTME candidates cannot sit for the main examination outside the state where they registered, describing the report as misleading.

‎This was disclosed in a statement by Fabian Benjamin, Ph.D., Public Communication Advisor (PCA) of JAMB.
‎
‎The clarification comes after a prior report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had quoted Dr. Fabian Benjamin assuring candidates that for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), “no one will be required to sit for the exam outside their state of registration.”

Police Rescue 10 Abducted Students In Edo‎

The Edo State Police Command said its operatives had rescued 10 Adventist students who were abducted on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, by suspected kidnappers, at a location bordering Edo and Ondo States.

‎This was disclosed by the Command’s spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu, in a statement Friday night.

‎It was gathered that the students were kidnapped while on their way from Rivers State to Babcock University, for the Annual GYC Africa Conference.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday said the visa of Turkish student Rumeysa Ozturk has been revoked, added that international students must adhere to the terms of their visas.

‎Turkish student Rumeysa Ozturk allegedly engaged in activities beyond the scope of her student visa. Amid visa revocation of students, Rubio said, “If we’ve given you a visa and then you decide to do that, we’re going to take it away.”

The Master of Ceremony had called Oluremi Tinubu “everyone’s mother,” in apparent reference to her “being the mother of the nation.

Edinburgh University Aims To Tackle Student Stress By Bringing Alpacas To Campus

THE UNIVERSITY of Edinburgh is bringing alpacas to campus yet again, in an effort to tackle student anxiety.

‎The alpacas were brought to George Square Gardens yesterday, with students allowed to pet them to reduce stress.

‎The university also holds regular “PAWS Against Stress” sessions organised by Therapet, wherein students are visited by dogs from Canine Concern Scotland.

‎This comes as many students enter their final exam period, amid the ongoing threat of industrial action from staff due to huge cuts from university management.
