WAEC Bans 574 Schools From Conducting 2025 WASSCE Due To Exam Malpractice‎

‎The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the revocation of licenses for 574 secondary schools across Nigeria, citing involvement in examination malpractices. The examination authority declared that these institutions will be barred from conducting any examinations, including the upcoming 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which is set to commence on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

‎Dr. Amos Dangut, the Head of WAEC’s National Office, made the announcement during a press briefing held at the council’s headquarters in Lagos. He revealed that the comprehensive list of the affected schools has already been communicated to the Nigerian government. “This year, we have identified 574 schools that have had their recognition withdrawn,” Dangut stated. “These revocations apply to all examining bodies, meaning these schools will not be considered valid examination centers.”

JAMB To Direct Entry Candidates: Upload Your Results Or Lose Admission

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has urged candidates who applied for admission in 2024 using the Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMB) and Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) to visit any approved computer based test centre (CBT) to upload their results as soon as they are released.

‎The board warned that failure to do so will result in disqualification from consideration for the 2024 DE admission.

A Professor of Science Education at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Benneth Uzoechi, has raised concerns over the use of foreign academic curricula in some private schools, stating that it puts Nigerian children at a disadvantage.

‎Addressing participants at the closing ceremony, the deputy vice chancellor (Administration), University of Ibadan, Professor Peter Olapegba, said that the students studying various courses at undergraduate or postgraduate levels were nominated by their respective faculties, while the professionals came from the military, media, medical, agriculture and business sectors.

NDDC Announces Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship For Niger Delta Indigenes

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has announced the opening of the 2025/26 foreign postgraduate scholarship programme for interested applicants from eligible states.

Interested applicants are expected to “have achieved a first class, second class upper, or lower division bachelor’s degree”.

Applicants are expected to have relevant bachelor’s degrees from recognised universities in the following professional disciplines: Agricultural Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geosciences, Information Technology, Medical Sciences and Law, and must not be older than 40.

Kano State Government Grants Automatic Employment To 54 Foreign-Trained Graduates

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has granted automatic employment to 54 postgraduate students who benefited from a foreign scholarship programme to study health-related courses in India.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, in Kano.

The statement said Yusuf made the announcement during a reception and Iftar (Ramadan breaking of fast) organised for the students, who studied at Symbiosis International University in Pune, India, and returned to the state on Friday.

The trio of David Nii Commey Ankrah, Henschel Tabi Frempong-Manso, and Benedict Ofori Debrah, all from Ghana, have emerged as the winners of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) International Excellence Award.

The three all-male candidates were selected from 2,455,063 who sat the examination in The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone with outstanding performances in the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School candidates, 2024.

They were honoured at the just concluded 73rd Annual Council Meeting of The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) which was held from Monday, 17th to Friday, 21st March 2025, in Monrovia, Liberia.

LASUSTECH Mass Communication Department Secures Full Accreditation

The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has received full accreditation from the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) for its Mass Communication Department.
