NELFUND : Over 500,000 Nigerian Students Applied For Loans In One Year

The Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) says more than 500,000 Nigerian students have applied for loans through its portal in one year.

‎This is contained in a statement on Friday by NELFUND’s spokesperson, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi.

‎Mr Oluwatuyi quoted the fund’s managing director, Akintunde Sawyerr, as saying the milestone achieved within just 11 months of operations underscored the critical need for accessible student
‎financing in Nigeria.

Police Rescue 10 Abducted Students In Edo‎

The Edo State Police Command said its operatives had rescued 10 Adventist students who were abducted on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, by suspected kidnappers, at a location bordering Edo and Ondo States.

‎This was disclosed by the Command’s spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu, in a statement Friday night.

‎It was gathered that the students were kidnapped while on their way from Rivers State to Babcock University, for the Annual GYC Africa Conference.

London University Named Among Worst For Student Loan Fraud In Leaked Report

A London university has been named among the worst in the United Kingdom for student loan fraud.

‎Since 2022, the Student Loans Company has identified 543 fraudulent applications, amounting to £6.2million, from students linked to the University of West London.

‎The university — which boasts a student body of more than 11,000, around a fifth of whom are from outside the UK — is among six higher education institutions (HEIs) with the highest volumes of lost loan fraud, leaked data showed.

The Master of Ceremony had called Oluremi Tinubu “everyone’s mother,” in apparent reference to her “being the mother of the nation.

“‎‎The students, however, rejected this title.‎‎

While the Master of Ceremony said, “Na our mama be this” (translated as “this is our mother”), the students responded, “Na your mama be this” (translated as “this is your mother”).‎

Lincoln University Wants Reversal Of Dependents’ Visa Policy For International Students

The University of Lincoln is joining other universities across the country calling for the government to reconsider its decision to impose visa restrictions on international students.
